A piece of history...
Our home 'The Britannia Hotel' as it was originally known, was built around 1848. It held a license for only 6 years from 1857-1863.
It was purchased after the license had ceased by John Daley, a boot maker who extended the building in to an L shape with the frontage on the street.
He traded for a long time as a store keeper and also ran the post office.
The building is made of local stone stone and timber with 2 feet thick
walls. Huge slabs of red gum were used as support beams and the large underground cellar has been retained.
The original character of the main dining room is seen in the Huon pine floorboards and the large double windows.
The frontage with the extended verandah retains the stone footpath, you can almost imagine the sound of a horse and buggy rolling up to the Hotels original front door.
With beautiful surrounding gum and Mulberry trees, all over 100 years old, there is much to explore and enjoy at Carob And Hare.
